Nearly $1 million worth of marijuana is off the streets after two men from Colorado were nabbed in a traffic stop in Cherokee County.
Deputies pulled over a Toyota van on I-85 near the 96 mile marker on Saturday just after noon. The vehicle was failing to stay in its own lane, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office told WHNS-TV.
When the deputy came close to the vehicle, he smelled marijuana coming from inside, according to officials.
A sheriff’s office news release said the deputy was given consent to search the van. Inside, he found six boxes and a garbage bag filled with 156 vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana. Cash was also seized during the stop.
The 167.9 pounds of high-grade marijuana is worth more than $900,000 on the street, officials say.
The drugs were headed for distribution on the streets of Charlotte, NC, officials say.
Two suspects from Colorado were arrested and charged with Trafficking Marijuana. Ken Choi Huang and Hue Chung Khee are being held at the Cherokee County Detention Center without bond.
“This traffic stop is a major dent in the marijuana trade for this area as the drugs were scheduled for distribution in the Charlotte North Carolina area,” a press release reads.
