A 2-year-old boy was killed after being struck by a train in southern Kentucky.
Hopkinsville Police Department public information officer Paul Ray said the child, identified as Trayton Joiner, was hit at the crossing at Skyline Drive just after 9:30 a.m. Monday. He added the train conductor blew the horn and tried to brake, but was unable to avoid hitting the child.
Joiner was alone at the time of the incident. Officers went door-to-door in the neighborhood trying to find his parents. Once they were located, the parents told police they were unaware the child had left the house.
Ray said a dog was also struck, but it was unclear if the dog belonged to the child or was a stray. The dog was taken to an animal clinic.
