We perish because we know not… #TLENews
On Monday, several dozen Haitian-Americans protested in front of the Harlem offices of former U.S. President Bill Clinton to demand an accounting of billions in aid managed by Clinton after the 2010 earthquake and to make a call on the United States to stop supporting the totalitarian regime of Michel Martelly in Haiti.
It was not the first time the group led these demonstrations aimed at Clinton. In December, a protest at Bill Clinton’s office took place that was followed by a march to the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s office where they protested some more.
Although the Clintons have had close relations with the Haitian community, it has deteriorated quite quickly into mistrust and dislike. The imposition of Michel Martelly as president of Haiti and the destruction of Haitian democracy has been a major sticking point of opposition. Furthermore the unwillingness to explain the uses of billions of aid meant for Haiti’s reconstruction has risen frustrations.
It should be noted that a complaint and request for an audit of the accounts managed by Clinton during the reconstruction was filed with the Supreme Court of Auditors and Administrative Disputes (CSCCA) in Haiti.
